ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A semi-trailer carrying strawberries caught fire on I-80 in Roseville on Thursday afternoon before 2:45 p.m. near Eureka Road, prompting lane closures and a rapid response by the California Highway Patrol and Roseville Fire Department (no injuries were reported) as the fire was declared out by 3:30 p.m. while crews remained on scene. - ➤ At Oakmont High School in Roseville, seniors gathered early for Senior Sunrise on Thursday morning to mark the first day of school — dozens received T-shirts and took pictures to celebrate the new year. KCRA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Roseville launched BetterFleet, a new electric vehicle charging platform for its electric buses and other vehicles—funded by a grant from the California Energy Commission that helps meet California’s zero-emission standards. The city will install 71 charger pads in its corporation yard to expand charging capabilities as more EVs are added. KCRA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Placer county is updating the WIC program so families can access fresh produce more easily by using new cards with a QR code — available at farmers markets and supermarkets. The change supports local farmers and provides the monthly nutrition funds for children, pregnant, and postpartum individuals. KCRA
- ➤ Dr. Alex McDonald of Kaiser explained that a two-dose HPV vaccine given at ages 9 to 12 can prevent up to 90% of cancers caused by the virus. Vaccination rates for Californians aged 13 to 15 fell (from 69% in 2021 to 56% in 2023) and he urged families to consult their doctors for guidance. KCRA
