- ➤ Gold Country Wildlife Rescue in Placer County took in six orphaned black bear cubs from June 26 to July 2 and began a 10- to 11-month rehab program to help them return to the wild — the cubs weigh between 12 and 17 pounds and face high food costs during care — as the nonprofit operates mostly on donations.
