Placer County has been awarded $14.5 million from the state to convert a county-owned building in Auburn into a 44-bed residential treatment center for substance use disorder to address gaps after the local provider closed in early 2024.
The facility will include 36 residential treatment beds plus 8 withdrawal management spaces and will be operated by a community-based provider with an additional local match of $1.4 million.
Dave Stroud, a stroke survivor who recovered at Methodist Hospital, now volunteers there to build therapy devices that help other survivors improve fine motor skills.
He uses his woodworking talent to craft tools and attends weekly Stroke Chat meetings—efforts that inspire recovery and bring him renewed joy.
