Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 1st of May.
Good morning, Roseville.
🏘️ Community
Big Day of Giving is a local fundraising event run by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation that has raised over $104 million for more than 850 nonprofits since 2013 — a sign of growing community support.
The program continues to help local groups build capacity as one-quarter of donors give for the first time.
🚨 Crime
Roseville PD warned that unexpected text messages may be scams because attackers try to trick people into replying and sharing personal information (texts may appear to be from banks, Amazon, or delivery services).
Residents are urged not to reply or click links and to report spam texts (FTC advises texting 7726) to protect against fraud.
🎭 Culture
Robert Paylor, a Roseville native and former UC Berkeley rugby star, was injured on May 6th (eight years ago) when an opposing player broke his neck during a national championship game and later used rehabilitation to walk at his graduation and dance at his wedding.
He is set to release his book 'Paralyzed to Powerful' on May 6th (a future release) to share his journey and the tools that helped him overcome quadriplegia.
