COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Placer SPCA is hosting a no-appointment adoption event today from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at its Adoption & Education Center in Roseville + select animals will have a reduced fee of $25 while all pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.  Roseville Today
  • Athens Renewable Energy awarded three local organizations grants as part of its first quarter Community Giving Program — Placer Community Foundation received $3,000 for nonprofit training, Roseville Urban Forest Foundation got $1,500 for tree equipment, and Gold Country Wildlife Rescue received $3,000 for animal care. The company invites applications for its second quarter program with a deadline of May 15.  Roseville Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SMUD is proposing a 3% rate hike next year and another 3% increase in 2027 that will add about $4.35 per month beginning Jan. 1 and $4.48 per month in 2027, raising the average bill to $153 per month—this rate is about half what PG&E customers pay. The increases come due to inflation, wildfire costs and new power investments, and a final decision is expected in June with public workshops on April 30 at 5:30 p.m. and May 13 at 10 a.m.  KCRA
