Tea Ceremony History The history of the tea ceremony in Japan, also known as Chayodo or Sado , is a traditional art form rooted in Zen Buddhism and dates back to the 9th century when tea was first introduced to Japan from China. The ceremony involves a preparation and presentation of matcha (a powdered green tea), as guests are led through a series of precise and deliberate movements from preparing the tea to cleaning the utensils. The traditional custom is carefully choreographed to create a sense of harmony and balance while promoting mindfulness and relaxation.
