About this event
Foundations Modern/Contemporary (Ages 7–12) "Contemporary dance is an advanced fusion form that draws from modern dance, ballet, jazz, acro, and improvisation. Foundations Modern/Contemporary introduces the movement principles and technical concepts that prepare dancers for future contemporary training." Modern and contemporary dance encourage students to explore movement, creativity, expression, and artistry while developing strong technical foundations. This beginner-level class serves as an introduction to the principles and movement vocabulary that form the basis of contemporary dance training. At The MuVment Studio, we believe that contemporary dancers benefit from first understanding the foundational concepts of modern dance. Drawing from modern dance techniques and the principles of the Power Fusion Method, students learn essential movement concepts such as contract and release, fall and recovery, weight shifts, floor work, alignment, balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and expressive movement. Students will explore improvisation, creative movement, movement patterns, and introductory contemporary concepts while developing strength, flexibility, mobility, and body awareness. Rather than focusing heavily on choreography, this class emphasizes movement education, technical development, and understanding how the body moves through space safely and efficiently. Because contemporary dance often incorporates advanced movement vocabulary, floor work, partnering concepts, inversions, and athletic movement patterns, Foundations Modern/Contemporary provides the essential building blocks students need before progressing into more advanced contemporary training. Key Benefits: Introduces foundational modern and contemporary dance vocabulary Develops strength, flexibility, mobility, and coordination Improves balance, body awareness, and movement efficiency Teaches contract and release, fall and recovery, and weight transfer concepts Encourages creativity, artistry, and self-expression Builds confidence in floor work and movement exploration Supports injury prevention through proper alignment and body mechanics Creates a strong foundation for future contemporary dance training No prior experience is required. Perfect for students who are new to modern or contemporary dance and want to build the technical skills, movement understanding, and confidence needed for future progression. Power Fusion Method™ The Power Fusion Method is a progressive approach to movement education that emphasizes strong technical foundations, conditioning, body awareness, critical thinking, and safe skill development. By focusing on how students learn and move—not just what they learn—dancers develop the physical, mental, and artistic tools needed for long-term growth, confidence, and success across all movement disciplines.
