About this event
Botanical Realism in Watercolor: Mushroom Study
Explore the warm, earthy colors and organic textures of mushrooms in this Botanical Realism Watercolor Study . We’ll work with soft washes, layering, subtle shadows, texture, and natural color variation to create realistic mushroom forms.
This is an intermediate-level watercolor class , but adventurous beginners are absolutely welcome! If you’ve taken Watercolor 101 or a few of our watercolor classes, this is a great next step.
During class, we’ll be working on two pieces at the same time : one featuring a singular mushroom and one featuring a pair of mushrooms. Working between the two pieces will allow us to take advantage of drying time while practicing the same techniques in different compositions.
We’ll be painting with Daniel Smith professional watercolors on Arches 100% cotton watercolor paper . Rather than working from dot cards, each participant will receive a small pre-made watercolor palette specifically prepared for this study.
All materials are provided , including professional watercolor pigments, Arches paper, brushes, and ceramic mixing plates. You are also welcome to bring your own favorite watercolor brushes.
Guided instruction: 3:00–5:00 PM
Please note that because watercolor requires drying time between layers, you may not completely finish both paintings during the two-hour guided portion of class. The additional studio hour is available for anyone who would like more time to work.
We highly encourage having a few watercolor pigments at home so you can continue practicing and finish your studies if needed. Need help choosing colors or building your own watercolor palette? We’re more than happy to help you select pigments in the shop.
Cost: $40 per person
A cozy fall study designed to slow things down, strengthen your watercolor layering skills, and explore the beautiful textures and subtle colors found in mushrooms.
